Speaker 1:

Hello and welcome to this short episode of the Fandom Portals podcast, the podcast where we explore fandoms that help you learn and grow. I'm your host, aaron, and today I am solo hosting this episode because we are bringing to you the winners of the 2024 Fandom Favorites Awards. So the Oscars are just around the corner. Our version of that is the Fandom Favorites, where we have three categories so far. We're looking to grow that in 2025. So if you have any ideas for categories, please send them through to our email or social medias Links in the show notes below. But our three categories so far that we have are Best Movie of 2024, best Hero of 2024, and Best Villain of 2024. So it's very interesting to me to put these polls out to our community and I also want to thank all of our community members for actually coming in and voting on these polls. They can't happen without you, so thank you very much. We had over 112 voters across our polls and it's just amazing to see that community interaction on the things that we're creating, and it's interesting to me to see what becomes popular and why it becomes favorites for people. So that's one of the things that really keeps me interested in this fandom portals. Space is just to see why people like the things that they like. So it's very interesting to see what people looked at in terms of the favorite heroes, villains and the favorite movies of 2024.

Speaker 1:

All right, so let's dive in first with the category of best villain of 2024. The best villain of 2024 is a category where we celebrate the antagonists of a movie that was released in 2024. So sometimes the villains and the antagonists can become the favorite character of the entire movie. They definitely drive the plot and they are the antithesis of the hero. So our nominees for this award was Vince McMahon, the real life CEO of the WWE. We had Cooper from the movie Trapped by M Night Shyamalan. We had Proximus Caesar from Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and we also had Macrinus from Gladiator 2. Now, what I didn't mention before was these nominations were picked by Brash and I and we sent these out to our community to vote on see which ones they thought was the best of 2024. So the winner of this one, by a landslide accruing 50% of the poll vote, was none other than Proximus Caesar.

Speaker 2:

What a wonderful day. Are we thankful for the words of Caesar? We are thankful. Do we bend our heads? We bend. Say his words, praise to God. Say his words, praise to God. What a wonderful day.

Speaker 1:

Now, as we said, Proxima Caesar comes from the 2024 movie Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. He is played by the extremely talented Kevin Durand. Now you might recognise Kevin Durand's voice from other movies, like the Wolverine Origins movie, where he played the blob, and he is also in real steel as well, but in this movie he really embodies that charismatic, villainous entity of Proximus Caesar. It is said that he took his inspiration from real life life coaches like Tony Robbins, the tech billionaire, elon Musk and even Arnold Schwarzenegger billionaire Elon Musk and even Arnold Schwarzenegger. He also said that he played this character of Proximus Caesar as if he himself thought that he wasn't a villain and that he was just a product of the environment that he was in. So he said that the state of the world at the beginning of you know humans time on the earth. They're just like usually pretty greedy and selfish as a race. So he kind of just leaned into that as he was playing Proximus Caesar, and it seems to have come off really, really well. So we want to thank our Fandom Portals community for giving the first ever Fandom Favorites Best Villain Award to Kevin Durand and Proximus Caesar. All right.

Speaker 1:

So the next category we're going to be looking at is the Best Hero category for 2024. The Best Hero category for 2024 gives us some characters that we can aspire to. Heroes are the shining knights of the story, and they often present characteristics or values that we really are enamored by. In our awards for 2024 for this year, the nominees were extensive. So firstly, we had Deadpool from the Deadpool and Wolverine movie, we had Kate from Twisters, we had Gambit from the Deadpool and Wolverine movie as well, and we also had Colt Seavers from the Fall Guy movie, and this year's winner, with 42% of the vote, was Colt Seavers.

Speaker 3:

Oh, that's me. Was Colt Seavers? Oh, that's me, colt Seavers Getting blown up and hiding my face in a muddy puddle, which isn't ideal when you're trying to look cool in front of Jodie, who you just so happen to have a major crush on. She's a camera operator. She's definitely going to achieve her goal of being a big time Hollywood movie director. I don't want to over romanticize it or anything, but I think what Jodie and I got is the kind of thing you can only really find in the movies.

Speaker 1:

Colt Seavers was played by Ryan Gosling, and it is said that Ryan Gosling had an integral part in some of the creative aspects of this movie. Now, not only did he really admire David Leitch, the director, and the various stunt doubles on the production, but he also conquered his own fears on this production, and that was his fear of heights. So at the beginning of the movie, you saw the 150-foot fall that he had to do, his fear of heights. So at the beginning of the movie, you saw the 150 foot fall that he had to do. He conquered that fear of heights, enabled to portray the hero of Cult Severs. Now we've chatted on the podcast before, brasher and I, and we've said how talented Ryan Gosling is, so it's no surprise that our Fandom Portals community has also recognized his talent as he plays the hero Cult Severs, and the first ever recipient of our best hero award for the fandom favorites of 2024. All right, last but not least, our final category is the fandom favorite best movie award.

Speaker 1:

Now, movies are a constant staple in the Fandom Portals podcast as a point of reference to help us learn and grow. They are the living place of many of our favourite fandoms, and this year, in 2024, there are so many movies for us to sink our teeth into, but the nominees that we came up with were Gladiator 2. We had Deadpool and Wolverine, the Wild Robot and the Fall Guy. Four extremely awesome movies that came out entertained audiences worldwide. Every single one of those movies made a profit in terms of their budget and worldwide box office numbers, but the winner, with 54% of the vote from all of our voters in the fandom portals community, was sean levy's deadpool and wolverine if they can fix your world.

Speaker 2:

What's the first thing you're gonna do when you get out of here? Some rubbing alcohol shots, maybe a wiper fluid chaser? What did you say? So when you get back, what's the first thing you're gonna do? Do I'm going to run before that? If they can fix your world, what do you mean? If I mean you lied to me, you don't have a fucking clue if they can help me fix things, do you? No, I mean Fuck. I didn't lie. No, I made an educated wish Because I need you this. This is why Right here, because if we don't do something, they die. I don't know anything about saving worlds, and why would I even care? Because my entire world is right here. In this picture it's only nine people and I have no idea how to save it alone. I know how to fuck people up for money, but you, you know how to save them. At least the other Wolverine did. I guess I'm stuck with the worst one. Did you say you made an educated, fucking wish? They call me the Merc with the mouth.

Speaker 1:

This movie was a sensation. Ever since people learned that Hugh Jackman was coming back as Wolverine, the hype meter just went through the roof. Now, everybody was a little bit reluctant because, obviously, the send-off that Hugh Jackman as Wolverine got in Logan in 2017 was quite an awesome one as far as comic book characters. He kind of got the best send-off that he absolutely could have gotten. But he really wanted to return back to the role due to his friendship with Ryan Reynolds. He even had chats with Kevin Feige as to whether it would be something that is possible or something that he should do, and $1.4 billion says that he made the right choice. With a budget of about $200 million estimated, it has definitely made a profit and has lived in the hearts of many a fan for a time to come. Now, this movie stars Ryan Reynolds in the role of Deadpool. It stars Wolverine and Hugh Jackman, but it also brings back a lot of the Sony characters that we remember from our nostalgic past, including Blade, played by wesley snipes. There was electra with jennifer garner, and the uh favorite uh gambit played by channing tatum, a man who had been advocating for the role for so long, and even the return of chris evans as johnny storm. It just played on that nostalgia and it brought back those characters that we know and love, and the relationship between deadpool and wolverine was characters that we know and love, and the relationship between Deadpool and Wolverine was something that we can all grow from. Most notably, they learned that they couldn't overcome obstacles all on their own. Sometimes it's okay to ask for help, and Deadpool actually learned a lot about humility in this movie. He kind of went on a big growing journey from Deadpool 1 all the way to this one, and if they stopped the trilogy here, I think I would be quite happy with his arc. You know, at the start of Deadpool 1 he didn't really want to be a part of the X-Men, actively avoiding that role, in fact, and Colossus was trying to get him to be a part of a group and a family and think of others. And then by the end of this movie he definitely was working toward sacrificing for others. The whole movie, in fact, is him trying to stop his own timeline and his own little family from being eradicated from existence, and he used none other than wolverine to help him. So if you're one of the people that hasn't seen deadpool and wolverine, make sure you go and check it out at is, as it is, our 2024 and very first recipient of the Best Movie Award in the Fandom Favorites.

Speaker 1:
